Kristi, I don't believe every white person is racist, either early in their lives or later. I can only speak for myself and indoctrination I received in my environment, that includes my friends at the time, that gave me the believe that I was more important than someone else because of something over which I had no control: the color of my skin. And that believe was pervasive in my community when I was growing up. It doesn't mean we were taught to be violent or do overt damage to them. We weren't. Or I wasn't. But unlike your experience in Jamaica, we knew what black people looked like because we lived in a big city. My reaction was not innocent curiosity. It was very diffeent, but thankfully not permanent. Thanks for reading and sharing your thoughts and experience.
